Christopher Columbus Letter Its Purpose and Rhetoric - Literature Essay Samples
Christopher Columbus had always dreamt of setting sail to Asia, but there was an obstacle: he needed financial support. At first, Columbus was unable to get funding for his trip, but then he approached the King and Queen of Spain, Ferdinand and Isabella, and they agreed. Finally, he was able to set sail from Spain to Asia in the year 1492. He was certain that he was headed to Asia but, his plan did not turn out as he had hoped. He ended up somewhere completely different, even though he was unaware. A few months after his voyage, Columbus decided to write his trip patrons a letter. In the letter that Columbus wrote to the King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella, he explained why and how his voyage was a success. He wanted them to know that the voyage they financed had brought them riches and new land as promised and encourage them to fund future voyages; in sending the letter, he delivered both relevant information from his voyage and a carefully-crafted persuasive argument. There were many reasons for which Christopher Columbus wrote that first letter to Ferdinand and Isabella. Naturally, he needed to let them know that he actually arrived and was able to give back to Spain. In the letter, Columbus states, â€Å"I discovered many islands†¦I took possession of all of them for our most fortunate King†¦Ã¢â‚¬ By saying this Columbus wants the King and Queen of Spain to know for a fact that he had taken control of all the places he went to and was able to gain them for Spain. In another paragraph he says, â€Å"†¦they might become Christians and inclined to love our King and Queen and Princes and all the people of Spain.†With this quote, Columbus wants the King and Queen to understand that he is spreading Christianity to other parts of the world and is expanding Spain’s territory by conquering new land. He wants the King and Queen to know that Spain is leaving a mark with these people and that they will always be remembered. Another main point of the letter was to point out that the voyage was a great success, as promised and providing reasoning for future voyages. Columbus convinces the reader in this letter by stating the positive aspects of the islands that he had encountered such as, â€Å"numerous harbors on all sides†, â€Å"very broad and healthy-giving rivers†, â€Å"exceedingly fertile fields†, and â€Å"well adapted for constructing buildings.†With these lines, Columbus is providing evidence of reasons to return and how his findings were successful. Columbus wants to have future voyages and explore the world better. The only way he can do is so by the sponsorship of the Ferdinand and Isabella. Without them, he would not have even gone anywhere in the first place. The main reason for the letter, however, is that Christopher Columbus wanted to receive credit for his findings and discoveries, even though Ferdinand and Isabela had already made an agreement with him. Columbus discovered a lot more than he thought he would. Even though he was unable to find what his original voyage goal was, the direct water route from Europe to Asia; he never actually reached Asia, and was unaware of this fact. Throughout the letter, Columbus mentions â€Å"I†consistently, making it seem as though he is only responsible for all the positive aspects of his voyage. Columbus wants to leave a mark and make sure that he receives some sort of credit for his voyage. Since all of the land and most of the riches were conquered by him but, are for Spain, the explorer, Columbus, does not end up with a big proportion of the findings but, being able to take credit for his findings make a difference. Columbus wanted to make sure that Ferdinand and Isabela are not the on ly ones receiving credit for his explorations. Columbus was successful in finding many new discoveries, land, and islands throughout his voyage. In this way, he could give back to the country of Spain for funding his voyage and future voyages since he did, after all, have a prosperous voyage. Columbus’ main reason for the letter was to receive credit for his hard work, just like his inspiration, Marco Polo (although Marco Polo wrote a book to establish his prowess). His main goal was to find a direct water route west from Europe to Asia but, instead, he actually ended up attaining even greater discoveries in the New World.

Edgar Allan Poes Death - Free Essay Example
No one knows how Edgar Allan Poe Died. People have many theories, such as brain tumors, rabies, suicide etc. Although, there was never any actually proof how he died. He was given an autopsy, but the documents were never discovered. Cooping was one of the many theories of how he died. Cooping was used in the early 1800s for elections. Multiple men would be beaten, stripped of their clothing and forced to drink until they were drunk out of their minds. Then they were given new clothes and would be sent in to vote for a certain person. It was a way people cheated to get a certain candidate elected. This was very common. This is how Poe is believed by many to have died because of, where and when he was found, what would happen around where he was found and Poes overall health at the time. Edgar Allan Poe was found near a tavern in Baltimore, drunk and in bad condition. He was immediately rushed to a hospital where he soon died mysteriously a few days later. According to many sources he was found, Edgar Allan Poe Found Delirious Outside Baltimore Tavern. On Oct. 3, 1849(findingDulcinea Staff). Edgar was found on election day, the day cooping would have taken place all over Baltimore. When cooping happened the men were dressed in different clothes. Edgar was dressed in clothes he wouldnt normally wear. He was immediately taken to the nearest hospital where he remained in a febrile state, delirious and confused, drifting between vague awareness†babbling incoherently†and complete unconsciousness(Israel Centeno) Variety of sources prove that Ppoe was found in bad shape, like he had been drugged, or not sober. A stage in cooping was, beating the victim and forcing him to intoxicate himself with alcohol or other drugs. All these facts leave a variety of proof po inting his death to cooping. Was the fact he was found outside a poll in cooping condition just a coincidence? According to a source, Edgar was found around Ryans Fourth Ward Polls which was a place where people went to vote. At this time, election ballots were stolen, judges were bribed and voters for the other candidate were intimidated and pressured. So basically, at the voting building where Poe was found near, was where many bad people did bad things. Especially on election day, which was the exact time for cooping to take place. It says, Some gangs were known to kidnap innocent bystanders, holding them in a room, called the coop. (natasha Ggeiling) Then To ensure compliance, their victims were plied with liquor and beaten. Poe could have easily been grabbed, thrown in a room, and beaten for compliance. The odds are just too good for this death to be a coincidence. If Poe actually died from cooping, then he would have either been too injured to live or the liquor would have killed him leaving a small chance for him to survive. No, if you drink liquor once youre not going to die in a matter of a couple days. Although, Poe could have. Poe had an alcohol problem long before he died so he would have eventually ended up dying anyway. This just my have added the cherry on top. At the time he had barely any money, he was just getting by when he had to provide for his family. Now he couldnt even support himself, especially when he lost all hope when his family passed away. According to sources poor nutrition and a weakened condition(The Mysterious Death of Edgar Allan Poe) could have killed him. Think about it, if Poe wasnt eating a lot and was dehydrated then kidnapped and beatin his body would be able to handle it. He was already weak from not getting protein but this would have killed Poe. Besides the rich people in this time period, it was very har d for people to live long. People were not eating enough and the common cold could kill you. Poe wasnt upper class so he had as much of a chance to live as the poor boy that stole bread to survive. Poe was found outside a poll with different clothes and not in his right mind. Was this all just a big Coincidence? Or was Poe a victim of the act Cooping? People at the time were weak and did not live long. Poe may have made beautiful works of literature, but that didnt differ him from anyone else health (body strength) wise. Many facts point to Poe being a victim of cooping, but no one will ever know for sure. Centeno, Israel. The Cooping Theory. Found in the brain are the synapses, the interaction point of two neurons (Perrine, 1996). The synapses in the brain are often the main target of a drug, altering the perception of something at the point of perception. When a drug is taken, it attaches itself to receptors in the brain, which have a pattern chemically similar to the neurotransmitters that send and receive messages in the brain. Certain drugs can attach themselves to these receptors, they may become blocked, and the neurotransmitters originally being sent by the brain s neurons are forced to wander around the brain until it can find another similar receptor, possibly creating a false signal (Perrine, 1996). Design of an Awareness Campaign The Diversity & Inclusion
Question: Give the literature review on awareness campaign This is where you will critically evaluate the area of diversity to inform your awareness campaign. Awareness Campaign Material: Supporting Material which can include: poster design, or flyers? Answer: Introduction The most widely recognized explanations behind meeting expectations late are workload weight, discovering time to do fitting work arranging and considering (54%) and working environment society and executive desires. Longer meeting expectations hours are connected with more elevated amounts of tension and lower levels of satisfaction. Just about a quarter of folks feel that work and family life are in the consistent clash while thirty-five percent of folks express that their work influences their home life in a negative manner. Less than a large portion of folks leave chip away at the time consistently while 44% say that they can escape just fifty percent of the time or less, with nine percent never leaving on time (Darcy et al., 2012). Right around a third thirty-one of folks report that there is no adaptable chipping away at offer where they work. While over a large portion of sixty-six of folks do work adaptable. More than 1 in 5 UK grown-ups have seen their work contrarily affected as an aftereffect of minding twenty tow percent with 2.3 million careers having stopped work and right around 3 million careers having lessened their working hours. The normal UK representative who drives now burns for 54.6 minutes every day venturing out to and from work (4 hrs 24 minutes every week) (Palmer, 2012). Equivalent Approach perceive the significance of work-life equalization and its something we continually screen inside our own workforce, we likewise bolster our customers to advance work-life adjust through a scope of administration devices and systems to bolster them to pull in, enlisted person and hold a differing workforce (Ramya Kannan, 2013). Literature Review: Work-Life Balance A typical confusion of work-life offset is that it is exclusively concentrated on folks and/or careers, which is essentially not the situation. Each of us put a great deal of time in our work - for those working in a "commonplace" full-time part, there are 227 working days every year. In the event that include longer meeting expectations hours, over the long run and checking messages and taking a shot at nighttimes/ weekends and days off, it's anything but difficult to perceive how function can assume control over individuals' lives. Work-live adjusts influences, and everybody one of us and organizations need to comprehend and perceive the significance of it (Darcy et al., 2012). Work-life parity means something other than what's expected to each of us, and how you decide to allot time to your 24 hours in a day, is close to home to you. Everybody has an obligation regarding dealing with their own particular vocations and a key piece of this is close to home wellbeing, which is straightforwardly related to what is regularly alluded to as 'work-life offset (Moen, 2015). The principal outcomes of not having the offset right can be groundbreaking - the advancement of medicinal conditions with long lasting ramifications and crumbling seeing someone are only two of various illustrations. One will know when you're reeling, when you can't allow your telephone or tablet to sit unbothered, when work is number one need over everything else, or when you overlook or move individual arrangements to clear a path for work. Neglect, the absence of efficiency, losing your edge are all recommendations you're your work-life equalization is out. It is not simply the weight which workaholic behavior puts on us our wellbeing and our wellbeing, and it is likewise the effect it has on our families and companions (Johnson, 2013). The UK has a repulsive propensity for measuring achievement and profitability by presenters, i.e. whoever is in the workplace the most, works the hardest. There is a supposition that the individuals who stay later are better at their employments, and this couldn't be all the more off-base. This kind of society has a contrary effect on profitability as individuals tackle more work than they can deal with, affecting their efficiency and their lives and wellbeing (Jang, Park Zippay, 2011). In Europe, it is seen as a contrary thing to stay late at work, and those individuals who do are seen as not being sorted out, or not buckling sufficiently down. In France, they have lawfully implemented a 35-hour working week, and there is currently new guidelines to keep workers from being committed to reacting to their manager's messages which are sent outside of working hours (Daly, 2012). My own perspective is that a reliable work-life offset is hopeful, and to have both in impeccable adjust the greater part of the time is unachievable. Both work and family/ different responsibilities are gigantically variable parts of lives and the measure of time we have to/ or have the capacity to commit to each are continually evolving. There are times in our lives when work-life offset is more troublesome, with one side taking need, for instance; when we have new increases to the family, when we have minding obligations, when we are in amazingly occupied periods at work, and it's those times when we truly need to take a seat and consider how we can make the vital moves to guarantee that we're ready to achieve a bargain (Bae, 2015). It's anything but difficult to invest a great deal of energy examining the work-life equalization point and much has been composed about it, however as I would like to think I have observed that in the event that we acknowledge that a ceaseless offset is unachievable and that there must be bargains, and then 50% of the weight is evacuated quickly, and desires are overseen. Consider it a solid eating regimen, one day you may treat yourself to something devious, yet the following you may eat truly beneficial to adjust, it is about discovering a trade-off between the two (Khan Agha, 2013). Work-life parity is incompletely the obligation of your Manager/ association, yet principally it is your obligation and its down to you how you deal with your time. In these 18 tips, I will give you inconspicuous, however, regular changes which you can execute straight away, which can have an immense effect on your wellbeing, your connections, your profitability and your general joy (Palmer, 2012). Better Work-Life Balance Program Tips 1. Be the First to Leave Tomorrow: Be enabled to be the first to leave your office tomorrow. Appreciate returning home at a sensible hour and take advantage of the warm night. Make a promise to leave on time in any event twice a week and do something useful with your additional time. 2. Directors - Be Realistic: When you are a compulsive worker or a night owl that is fine, yet don't be disillusioned if your colleagues don't impart your attitude - concur a code for 'business basic' messages or calls, so your group know it is vital to react promptly, however, utilize it sparingly, abuse makes it counterproductive. 3. Deal with Your Diary: Try not to let your journal get completely occupied, this not just gives you under added weight something to do level out constantly, yet it likewise confuses things if other individuals need to revamp. Plan every day with 2/3 need undertakings and plan to chip away at them amid your 'top execution time' - for a few this may be first thing in the morn ing before you get immersed with messages, others may work better and gather all the more toward the evening or even the nighttime. 4. Safeguard Your Energy: Be merciless with assignments, which take your vitality - Do you fear them? Is it true that they are key? Can they be done distinctively or all the more proficiently? Take a gander at these errands and talk about them with your Manager, and figure out how to quit applying your vitality pointlessly. 5. Reconsider Personal Chores: This isn't fundamentally the cleaning up and pressing, it is those little tasks like calling the service organization, or making therapeutic or dental arrangements - distribute one lunchtime every week or month to finishing these errands in one go, and make an individual schedule of them so you don't to stress over recollecting that them. 6. Exercise: This doesn't fundamentally mean immense workouts in the rec center consistently with a fitness coach, and this can be incorporating essential activity with your day. It can be as basic as awakening minutes prior and going a stroll before work, getting off the transport a stop early and strolling whatever is left of the way, taking the stairs rather than the lift and strolling to the grocery store for your sandwich at lunch as opposed to going in the auto. You ought to be going for 10,000 stages a day, which is more than you would, might suspect. Leave a couple of mentors in your work area and begin a 'mobile club' with associates to escape from the workplace for 20 minutes at lunch time, this is an awesome approach to get some activity and address partners you wouldn't ordinarily draw in with. Investigative exploration demonstrates the increment in efficiency and adequacy with only 10 minutes of activity, which can without much of a stretch be incorporated into any day (Tariq et al., 2012). 7. Unwind: The force of unwinding shouldn't be thought little of. It is vital, even in the most rushed of days, that you stop and require some serious energy to unwind, regardless of the fact that it is for just 10/15 minutes - this could be sitting in the auto with the radio on, perusing a book on a recreation center seat, or closing your office entryway and closing your eyes for 10 minutes. Exploration demonstrates a feline rest of 20 minutes a day can build efficiency drastically (Sirgy Wu, 2013). 8. Request Help: On the off chance that you workload is absolutely unmanageable in the time you are grinding away, you have to request help - this could mean you need to be expanded preparing and advancement, or it might be that the workload is absolutely impossible and unmanageable - whichever way convey and request help, engrossing such weight is not beneficial. 9. Evacuate "Impeccable" From Your Vocabulary: Try not to endeavor to idealize on each and every thing you do, arrange thos e zones you can't bargain on, and after that convey the rest to the best of your capacity (Shanafelt et al., 2012). 10. Maintain a strategic distance from Adrenalin Addiction: A few of us adore the adrenalin surge of being popular, and excessively occupied - this is fine short term, however, shouldn't turn into the standard - again this is unsustainable in the long haul (Trower, 2012). 11. Try not to be a Martyr: Office saints over-burden themselves with work, deny help or want the representative to associates to be perceived as their work. At that point groan about it! Working too hard can regularly hurt as opposed to upgrading your profession prospects. 12. Telecommute: Whilst this includes bunches of adaptability this can frequently bring about more meeting expectations hours and less movement. Telecommuting could include an extra meeting expectations day of time to your working week in the event that you drive into the workplace day after day, so you ought to utilize this additi onal time to issue you favorable element. At the point when working for home its essential to make a workspace that you need to endeavor to go to, whether that be a committed office, save room or shed. It's essential to make the refinement in the middle of home and work. Make clear to relatives or guests what telecommuting means, so you allay the anxiety of needing to the motion to individuals whilst you are on the telephone and so forth. At the point when telecommuting its anything but difficult to fall into the trap of never exchanging of, be restrained with innovation, kill your telephone or tablet at 8pm and put it far from where you are so you are not enticed to take a gander at it and speak this with your manager or group (Wang Verma, 2012). 13. Say No: Be practical there comes a point where you can't do everything for everybody. Know your cutoff points and figure out how to say NO. 14. Keep Days Off and Weekends Precious: Utilize your days off and weekends to revive your vitality levels, so you are back to your best when you come back to work. Dodge unnecessary work and arrangement exercises that will lessen stress. 15. Assume Liability for your own Wellbeing: Your wellbeing is your own obligation, so on the off chance that you discover you are creating issues make a move before they get to be more genuine. 16. Stop for Meals: There is nothing more awful (or more unhygienic) than having your lunch at your work area, and you are generally diverted, eat it rapidly and are taking a gander at the web whilst you do it. A short break to eat your dinner smoothly and gradually far from your ordinary work space can have tremendous profitability advantages. 17. Set aside a few minutes for a Holiday: On the chance that the considered wanting to take a week or two off fills you with fear you have to ponder your work-life parity, yet in the event that that is truly unreali stic, form in general long weekends toward the start of the year to issue you a pit stop and time to rest. Where conceivable tag an additional day or two onto every end of your vacation to take a percentage of the weight off and let you come back to work without plane slack (Palmer, 2012). 18. Conclusion Likewise with many aspects in life, balance is the main issues. Individuals who are continually fixed to their employments manage the manifestations of anxiety and burnout. Exhausted representatives are more prone to endure well-being issues, more like to be non-attendant and/or wiped out, less effective, less amiable, and general more hard to work with. (Chapter 7, Pages 191-192, Carter, Bishop, Gravitas, 2011) Finding the main idea of what I am reading, proportioning key points, and highlighting information that stands out will help during the review phase. (Chapter 7, Page 196, Carter, Bishop, Gravitas, 2011) Reciting the answers to the questions I raised will help m e commit the information to memory. Chapter 7, Page 1 97, Carter, Bishop, Gravitas, 2011) Reviewing my questions and answers, summarizing the highlighted portions, and quizzing myself on different aspects of the material during the review hash will also be helpful. (Chapter 7, page 198, Carter, Bishop, Gravitas, 201 1) Another study technique is using flashcards so I can memorize important information, especially vocabulary words or historical dates. Using study skill that work with my multiple intelligences can be helpful. Moving around while reviewing flashcards, listening to music while reading, or cutting and pasting material have read into documents with similar ideas could all be advantageous to my studying skills. Chapter 7, page 204, Carter, Bishop, Gravitas, 2011) When highlighting should avoid over marking and use a jugular pen or pencil instead of a highlighter. (Chapter 7, Page 205, Carter, Bishop, Gravitas, 201 1) Making notes in the margins will help master content. Man in Space
For many years, man has always been interested in exploring the space. This is evidenced by many fictional scientific stories about the space that have been written. However, he has not made significant success in this endeavor. The greatest success that has been achieved is travelling to the moon in recent decades.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Man in Space – Norm Thagard specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Man continues to make space travel attempts through advanced technology with the intention of exploring the space. The first attempt he made to travel to the space which was a joint effort between the Soviet Union and America took place in 1975. This project popularly known as Apollo test project was intended at testing the ability of the two countries to manage future space journeys (Nasa, n.d). Russia and America worked together since 1993 to facilitate space travel by man. Space travel equipments beg an making their trips to Russian stations in 1994. Norm Thagard was historically recognized as the first American astronaut to reside in Russia. Together with his seven colleagues, he joined other astronauts from Russia to work in an orbiting laboratory in Russia. This endeavor gave them enough experience that saw the development of space stations with international recognition. In 1998, the stations began developing in-orbit technology which was followed by constant staffing. These developments facilitated space travel greatly (Nasa, n.d). Most of the people who took part in space travel used different technologies such as nuclear propulsion technology. This was a preferable choice of technology because of its reliability and flexibility in long distance space travel. It was also preferable because it was cheaper when compared with other forms of technology such as chemical rockets. During space travel, man required certain domestic needs to be met and this made the development of modern technology important. The first technology development in space travel was associated with the Apollo project. This was the first space travel intended at placing man on the moon. This project was an important one and led to the development of different technologies. It expanded the knowledge of man regarding space travel (Nasa, n.d). During space travel, man required food since without food there would be no survival. As a result, the first technology used by man to prevent food from going bad during space travel was freeze drying. This technology was initially developed during the Second World War to preserve plasma. It involved freezing the food, a process that removed most of the moisture from it. The foods preserved used this technology included foods like meat, peas and liquids.Advertising Looking for essay on other technology? Let's see if we can help you! While in space, astronauts were supposed to carry out different tasks in their quest to gather scientific information. It was therefore not possible for them to gather this information by using traditional or power tools. Traditional tools could not provide much assistance while power tools presented limitations because of their cords. The use of cordless power tools proved to be very useful for the astronauts (Bryson, 2010). The third type of technology used in space travel was MRI and CAT technologies. The initial space travels were intended at identifying the most suitable grounds to land when man travelled to the moon. For this to be accomplished there was the need to have the right equipment to take space photographs. This technology was used by man during space travel to develop computer aided topography. It was also used to develop magnetic resonance imaging. References Bryson, B. (2010). A Short History Of Nearly Everything. New York: Transworld. Nas a. (n.d). Space Shuttle. An AP Language Sample Synthesis Essay
An AP Language Sample Synthesis EssayHere is an ap language sample synthesis essay. This is for AP English Language test taking purposes. It is an AP sample essay that was designed to give students a good idea of how to write an essay on their own. The topic of the essay is the history of in vitro fertilization.Let us first consider how Synthetic Language Composition should begin. The goal of this Synthetic Language is to convey to the reader the underlying message of the entire essay, or even of the entire essay. The best way to do this is to use metaphors. Metaphors are like keys that fit into the locked door of the mind. If the reader can understand your metaphor then they can understand your entire essay.A good way to start is to start with a preposition. For example, in this case, we would begin by using the preposition 'in' which means 'in this place'to this extent.' This is a very powerful way to start because it forces the reader to take in everything you are saying about the subject at hand.A good place to start a Synthetic Language essay is with a brief sentence that breaks down everything that you have written up to this point. You can also use words like 'it'such as' which help put all of your ideas down in one fell swoop.The next thing to do is to think about how you want to start the body of your text. Use a good starting statement that forces the reader to look at what you are writing about. After that it is all about your main idea.After you have accomplished this then you can continue on to other parts of your text. It is important to do this because you do not want to leave anything out. However, you need to make sure that you keep your main point in mind as you do this.In this paragraph, the second part of this paragraph is also an AP language sample synthesis essay. It is used to teach the basic concepts about language. You can find out more about this AP language sample synthesis and the topic of this AP language sample essay on the website below.The above three paragraphs are examples of how you should begin writing an AP language sample synthesis. If you do this correctly then you will have the perfect content to use for your AP English test.

The eNotes Blog This Week in PoeticHistory
This Week in PoeticHistory Just for fun: were celebrating the lives of three poets that were changed this week in history, many years ago, and examining the curious ways one turn of events can change a legacy. Here are three world-altering events from three years in poetic history The Raven Is Born On this day in 1845, Edgar Allen Poes The Raven, one of the best-known poems in the English language, was first published. But it was no easy feat getting it into print. Poe first submitted the poem his friend and owner of Grahams Magazine George Rex Graham, who declined. He did, however, give Poe $15 out of what could best be described as pity. The poem was eventually bought by The American Review, for $9. Still, Poe was not yet to become the household name he would shortly be; the magazine printed it under the pseudonym Quarles. It was in the Evening Mirror that the poem first appeared with Poes name beneath it. Thanks to this publication, Edgar Allen Poe and his Raven achieved  immediate success,both praised by Elizabeth Barrett (Your Raven has produced a sensation, a fit o horror, here in England. Some of my friends are taken by the fear of it and some by the music. I hear of persons haunted by Nevermore') and memorized by Abraham Lincoln himself. To discover more about and celebrate this influential poem, find the annotated eText of The Raven here at . Dante Alighieri Is Exiled If it werent for an unfortunate turn of politics, would Dante have written the masterpiece we all remember him for? On January 27th, 1302, the poet was banished from Florence, where he served as one of the citys six priors. Dantes political activities, including the banishing of several rivals, led to his own banishment, and he wrote his masterpiece, The Divine Comedy, as a virtual wanderer, seeking protection for his family in town after town, which may or may not be akin to walking the nine circles of Hell Of course, nowhere is this experience listed as inspiration for The Divine Comedywe just couldnt resist the temptation of a good what if! Yet surely this must have been a time of reflection for Alighieri, as the part of his guide through Paradise, the last portion of the series, was given to a Beatrice Potinari, Dantes own childhood love and adult muse. For additional background, analysis, and critical essays of Dantes masterpiece, find the complete study guide here. The Last Poems of Yeats Are Published from His Deathbed Seventy-five years ago, celebrated Irish poet William Butler Yeats took his last breath. In the same month, three of his last poems ran in The Atlantic. As he faced his own mortality, how did the Nobel Prizewinner look back on his life and work? Heartrendingly, with little regard for his own ego or extensive achievements. In The Man and the Echo, for instance, Yeats examined his role in the 1916 Easter Rising, a bloody rebellion by Irish republicans against British rule. In the poem the poet apportions blame to himself, as the speaker confesses to his own unforgiving echo: Man. In a cleft thats christened Alt Under broken stone I halt At the bottom of a pit That broad noon has never lit, And shout a secret to the stone. All that I have said and done, Now that I am old and ill, Turns into a question till I lie awake night after night And never get the answers right. Did that play of mine send out Certain men the English shot? Did words of mine put too great strain On that womans reeling brain? Could my spoken words have checked That whereby a house lay wrecked? And all seems evil until I Sleepless would lie down and die. Echo. Lie down and die. Yeats died on January 28th, 1939 in a boarding house in Menton, France.

Decision making for Paramedic Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words - 1
Decision making for Paramedic - Essay Example ical thinking, response to emergency, efficiency and calmness, employers often expect that a qualified paramedic would be able to portray these qualities with a high standard of effectiveness. In this regard, current employers expect the employees to respond effectively to injuries, illnesses, and accidents. Communication skills and response to communication cues of the environment is another of the important skills that the training program for paramedics focus on, thus the employers expect a paramedic would be able to portray appropriate communication qualities, with ability to apply the use of modern technology for efficient and effective communication (Edwards 2011). The field of health and medicine is dynamic with continuous changes in the trend of care and management. My major expectation in the paramedic profession is to keep abreast with the changing trends in the profession through remaining relevant to the practical, technical and theoretical aspects of the profession. This would come through a constant upgrade to my technical and theoretical knowledge of the profession. Additionally, I require effective communication and interpersonal skills like teamwork, courtesy and calmness to meet the role of a paramedic (Ball 2005). According to O’Meara et al. (2012), increased industrialization contribute to medical challenges such as increased accidents and health care risks that come with industries like industrial fires. This means within the next decades, there will be an increased need for paramedics. Additionally, there are more paramedic degree holders because of the improved training program, implying an impending increase in professionalism in the field of paramedics. In the next decades, the role of paramedics would entail the provision of high-quality care and response to emergency services through the application of the modern technology, which would enable paramedics to be more efficient and effective (Ross et al., 2014). This will increase

Women offenders and prisioners Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Women offenders and prisioners - Essay Example The special guidelines for the treatment of female prisoners, namely the Bangkok Rules, have been adopted by the United Nations (UN) in the year 2010. Despite the fact that these rules have not been implemented in totality, they represent vast improvement for female prisoners in international law. The main motivator for this astounding development was Princess Bajrakitiyabha Mahidol of Thailand. This redoubtable champion of women’s issues was instrumental in ensuring that the efforts of the Thai delegation to the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice was successful in its efforts (Barberet, 2014, p. 174). It has been acknowledged in these rules that female prisoners have drastically different requirements, in comparison to their male counterparts. To a major extent the Bangkok Rules are evidence based and acknowledge several of the findings of ‘Women Crime and Criminal Justice: A Global Enquiry’, by the eminent scholar Ms. Barberet. Moreover, the Bangkok Rules mirror several of the erstwhile reform efforts that had been undertaken on behalf of females in prison, across the world. For instance, these rules acknowledge the high incidence of victimization of female prisoners and their greater inclination to engage in self-harm and suicide; the lower risk of most female prisoners, but higher classification levels; the special status of female prisoners who are also mothers of children; the stigma encountered by female prisoners; the abuse of women for immoral crimes; and the specific needs of indigenous women prisoners (Barberet, 2014, p. 174). Furthermore, these rules recommend the provision of intimate articles for females, alternatives to invasive or strip searching, alternatives to incarceration for females, and research and data collection regarding the issues pertaining to imprisoned females. Moreover, these rules acknowledge that females, in some nations, are incarcerated, in order to safeguard them,

Flash! :: essays research papers
FLASH!      On august 6, 1945 an atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. Thousands of people died instantly from the initial blast. Others died later because of flash burns and radiation sickness. Those who lived had to move away from their homes and toward the parade grounds and parks. Any doctors that were uninjured had to work nonstop all day and night mending wounds. Some people mysteriously die and others are unrecognizable because of the flash burns covering their bodies. The few people that had survived the blast had to try to put their lives back to normal. Homes had been destroyed and family members killed. Now new people had started moving into Hiroshima once news spread that is was safe.      The book Hiroshima was an enlightening view of what went on during the atomic blast and the days after. The part that sticks most in my mind was when Mr. Tanimoto was trying to help burn victims on the shore of the river. When he grabbed the one woman’s arm to pull her out to the boat he was using to transport injured people chunks of her skin slid right off. I could visualize the skin coming off because of a similar but not nearly as extreme of an experience. I had burned my arm on an oven rack and when I was wiping off my arm the skin peeled right off. As I read the section I could imagine a large piece of skin peeling off of a human hand and I thought that I would lose my dinner.      Another thing that remained in my memory throughout the novel was that people put their beliefs before their injuries. Mr. Tanimoto mention that he was ashamed that he could walk when he saw all of the injured people lying about unable to move. Dr. Sasaki didn’t sleep for the first three days because he knew it would be wrong to. Amazingly though, the injured had no shame they walked naked with burns from head to toe and thought nothing of it.      The bomb fell silently and as in struck the ground a bright flash lit the whole city. The residents who lived through couldn’t seem to realize what kind of bomb it was. Some thought it was a cluster of many bombs. Rumors spread that a plane that had flown over had sprayed gasoline all across the city. Another said that magnesium powder had been dropped and reacted to the power lines.
